Anonymous question on behalf of another member:

I sometimes forget about family and friends because I think so much about somebody who I love. It does take over my thinking. What can help with this?

Sometimes messages get so mixed up! You have to wonder if they were remembering something from another patient or if they just forgot to wash their ears out that morning!!

I have no idea how the nurse today did this but please have a laugh!

I told the nurse I was having difficulties with low ferritin (iron) due to inflamed large intestines, swallowing issues and a sore mouth.

The same nurse rang back and said you need to use your emergency injection as you have had diahorrea more than six times in the day.…[Read more]

I’m wondering if any advocacy support would be available to someone who has 24 hour care and is finding managing that care quite a challenge.
I’m in York and I’ve looked online but can only see the York Advocacy Hub where there is a very long wait.
If not, is there any information anyone could recommend that might help me support my client. Many…[Read more]

We are in the Midlands, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same everywhere, advocacy as other services have been cut. I think if there is learning disability involved there is more support because the government legally has to offer this, but for physical disability it is even more challenging.

I would recommend suggesting our client platform to her as…[Read more]

    Hello
I’m wondering if any advocacy support would be available to someone who has 24 hour care and is finding managing that care quite a challenge. Not respecting boundaries, not listening to needs or dismissing them, lack of continuity in carers sent, are some of the issues, coupled with a fear of making things worse by complaining.
    I’m in York…[Read more]

Hi Julie, your situation is quite similar to mine as I am also generally limited to staying in bed and unable to sit up for any length of time. I have periods of time where I’m able to do more but also times where like you are now I’m more restricted. To some extent, I trying struggle too much to fill my day, because by the time I’ve done all the…[Read more]

In January 2024 I had quite a big physical health set back in an unexpected way. This has brought with it mental health challenges which I am finding the course material is helping me with. But I am also suffering physical health issues. I am not as sure how to deal with these and wondered if anyone in the forum had any suggestions? I am spending…[Read more]

I definitely can say I experience this too – with social services but also with medical things for me as well. I think sometimes when you have assessments (depending on the purpose of them, because you don’t want to argue yourself out of support!) it can be helpful to also make a list of things you have achieved, so you can show them positives as…[Read more]

Hey Julie, this is indeed very very common unfortunately, focussing only on the negatives. You may find 9.1 on shame, and especially shame rage helpful. There are so many negative messages around disability and being different. Do discuss it in our next informal meet when you get the chance. Something that helps is preparing for this negativity by…[Read more]

Just recently it has been getting to me that social services only see my negatives. They home in and focus on my negatives. The time I sat and screamed. The time I shouted at a care worker. The time I had forgotten to write make the bed on a care plan. Social services seem to like to hold on to all your negatives like a life sentence.
    Do others…[Read more]
