Module 1: Working Affirmatively With Disabled Clients – £30

In this module we cover:

  • Why is it challenging to engage in disability?
  • What literature evidence is there of client experiences?
  • What does it mean to view disability from a Social Model perspective
  • How can we increase empowering interventions, support and therapy?

What do you get?

  • 5 hours CPD
  • 1 hour PowerPoint training with Mel Halacre including reflective exercises

Module 2: What’s Disability History Got To Do With Anything? £30

In this module we cover:

  • How history shaped the welfare state and society’s views of disability
  • How history informed therapy models
  • Disability models – ways to view disability
  • The impact of disability history on our clients and ourselves

Module 3: Disability & Faith £10

In this module we cover:

  • Our personal experiences of interaction with people of faith
  • Ideas on how you can introduce the topic of faith or non-faith into your work
  • How disability is often viewed through a faith lens

Module 4: A Client’s Experience of Accessing Therapy £10

In this module we cover:

  • Katy Evan’s personal experience of accessing therapy
  • Practical considerations
  • The emotional impact of accessing therapy
  • The Equality Act and its limitations

Module 5: What’s It Like to Receive Care? £10

In this module we cover:

  • What can we gain from supporting disabled clients?
  • Why is it challenging to engage in disability?
  • What do disabled people tell us of their experiences with therapy and support?
  • What does it mean to view disability from a Social Model perspective?
  • How can we increase empowering therapy?

What do you get?

  • 4.5 hours CPD to include:
  • A 1 hour 10 minute main presentation with reflective exercises
  • 2 hours of additional video material, full interviews (90 minutes) or short 10 minute clips with 6 disabled people:
    • Matt, a single disabled person who lives with his family and has social care and agency workers.
    • Ali & Jess a disabled couple who both receive care from agencies and PAs
    • Kim, a disabled person who has support from agency care assistants, nurses
    • Emma, a disabled person whose mum is her main support worker
    • Tim, a disabled person who lives in a care home
  • Additional 35 minute section for those involved in assessments
  • This module is heavily discounted at £10 to allow as many people as possible to access this vital training
